Beside the silent waters

This is the famous song sung by Lata Mangeshkar after the war with China in the year 1964. The song was written by Pradeep Sir and brought to life by Lata's melodious voice. It was the song that brought Jawaharlal Nehru to tears...   Lata Mangeshkar (28 September 1929-06 February 2022) Lata Mangeshkar, born in 1929 in Madhya Pradesh was the firstborn of a Marathi and Konkani musician and his wife Shevanti. She has contributed to Indian music for more than nine decades and earned her title as The Nightingale of India in her ninety-three years of life and is one of the most famous singers and music composers in the history of India. Her majestic voice has given her endless opportunities to work with various artists and in various languages. Lata Mangeshkar has recorded her songs in almost every language in India – even the world! Being a child of different cultural backgrounds like Marathi, Konkani, Gujarati, etc, she was well-versed with the cultural significance, and language which later helped her as a singer. All her siblings are accomplished singers and musicians. She received her initial training in singing and acting in public through her father’s plays, called Sangeet Natak in Marathi.
