Beside the silent waters

Joseph M. Scriven, a blessed Irish preacher wrote this wonderful Christian hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" in 1855 as a poem to comfort his ailing mother. The lines of the hymn put us in awe of the incredible faith of Scriven, amidst trials in his life that is i mpossible to bear in human capacity. His trials consisted a deaths of 2 of his Fiancé one after another, followed by his beloved mother. He devoted his short life to ministry, teaching and encouraging others while choosing a path of poverty. The poem was turned into a hymn by an American lawyer Charles Crozat Converse in 1868 and it has been widely sung by Christians as a hymn of hope and encouragement. Scriven passed away on August 10th, 1886 at the age of 66 in Ontario, Canada and was buried beside his 2nd fiancé Eliza Roche in Ontario.  This is a beautifully translated Hindi version of the song.    यीशु क्या ही प्यारा मित्र,  पाप और दुःख उठाने को,  उसकी शरण हम ले सकते, हम पर दुःख ...
